This page provides an overview of low-cost and no-cost resources available to Team Members and dependents who have been impacted by an emergency-declared natural disaster, including the floods in Central Texas. If more resources become available, we will add them here.

Coping After a Natural Disaster

BCBS has put together a list of tools and organizations that offer support to those impacted by a natural disaster, available in English and Spanish. This resource is for all Team Members, regardless of your benefit enrollment status.

Fast Track Grants from Michaels CARES

If you are a Team Member that had a mandatory or voluntary evacuation from your home, power loss that impacted you sheltering in your home, or damage or destruction of your primary residence, you may qualify for a fast grant through Michaels CARES. Please reach out to your SM, DM or HR Partner for fast grants.

Learn More & Apply for Grants Online

Fast grants from Michaels CARES can be used for staying at a hotel if you had to leave your home, buying clothing if you were not able to carry much during evacuation, buying life necessities like toiletries, diapers, baby formula, buying a plane or bus ticket to leave the area, and filling a gas tank for long trips.

Additional grants may be available for damage or destruction of primary residence. Please remember to keep all receipts for costs associated with your evacuation and damages (hotel, gas, food, clothing, etc.) Please review the application for the full details.

Recent severe flooding across Central Texas has caused evacuations and significant damage for residents. We’re here for our Michaels Team Members during this challenging time. We encourage you to use the following programs available to you and your family:

BCBSTX Members

Recovering from a natural disaster is never easy.  As such, below are available resources for BCBSTX members who reside in the impacted Texas counties, which include Bandera, Coke, Comal, Concho, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Llano, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Reeves, San Saba, and Tom Green.

Benefit Value Advisors (BVAs)

For BCBSTX members living or traveling in the impacted areas, Benefit Value Advisors (BVAs) are ready to help:

  • Call BVA Customer Service at 1-877-269-1180.
  • Find a doctor or hospital.
  • Refill a prescription.
  • Coordinate or transition care.
  • Get a BCBSTX member ID card.

Natural Disaster Distress Helpline

Mental health is just as important as physical health. The Natural Disaster Distress Helpline is available at 1-800-985-5990.

Prime Therapeutics

Prime Therapeutics has entered Dynamic Prior Authorizations (dPAs) for a standard 2-week period. This implementation is set up based on the governor’s declaration to override any refill too soon edits due to the Disaster Declaration.

No action is required by Team Members.

Free Virtual Visits 24/7 from MDLIVE®

Virtual Visits powered by MDLIVE® are available 24/7:

  • Visit the MDLive website or call 1-888-680-8646.
  • Meet with board-certified doctors by phone, video, or app for non-emergency care.
  • Services are available in English and Spanish with translation services available in other languages.
  • How to redeem your free Virtual Visit:
